OUR MINERALS

GOLD (Au)
SOUTH-AFRICA, GHANA &
COTE D'IVOIRE
Throughout history gold has been highly sought-after, revered and cherished. More than that, it is used for a myriad of applications and remains one of the most sought-after precious metals found on the planet.
NICKEL (Ni)
COTE D'IVOIRE & ZIMBABWE
Use of nickel has been traced as far back as 3500 BCE. About 68% of world production is used in stainless steel. A further 10% is used for nickel-based and copper-based alloys, 9% for plating, 7% for alloy steels, 3% in foundries, and 4% in other applications such as in rechargeable batteries, including those in electric vehicles.

COPPER (Cu)
ZIMBABWE
Copper is one of the few metals that can occur in nature in a directly usable metallic form. This led to very early human use in several regions, from c. 8000 BC. Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, as a building material, and as a constituent of various metal alloys, such as sterling silver used in jewelry, cupronickel used to make marine hardware and coins.
COAL
SOUTH-AFRICA
Coal is used primarily as a fuel. Thermal coal or steaming coal is burned for steam to run turbines to generate electricity either to public electricity grids or directly by industry consuming electrical power (such as chemical industries, paper manufacturers, cement industry and brickworks).

COBALT (Co)
COTE D'IVOIRE
Cobalt is primarily used in lithium-ion batteries, and in the manufacture of magnetic, wear-resistant and high-strength alloys. Cobalt is also used in the petroleum industry as a catalyst when refining crude oil.
